In this monograph, Jonathas de Andrade’s work playfully dismantles “visual archetypes associated with tropical exoticism, the eroticisation of the male body, cultural mixing, and the representation of social and racial inequalities”. We were particularly inspired by his approach, rooted in the deconstruction of power structures and, notably, his use of Augusto Boal’s theatrical methodologies — a reference dear to us at the studio. As a tribute to the legacy of Éditions Maspero, who first brought Boal’s writings to French readers in the 1970s, we borrowed their iconic typeface for this publication. A gesture of graphic tribute and historical continuity.
