Presented at the French Pavilion for the 58th Venice Biennale in 2019, Laure Prouvost’s Deep See Blue Surrounding You / Vois Ce Bleu Profond Te Fondre immersed visitors in a dreamlike world.
Printed on tapestry-textured paper, the publication’s dust jacket can also be used as a mask. Conceived as both a costume and a trompe l’œil cover, the publication turns out to be edited and designed as a world atlas, journeying through many of the artist’s previous exhibitions in non-chronological order with its own fictional geography.
French Pavilion – Deep See Blue Surrounding you
We designed the whole visual identity of the French Pavilion for the 58th Venice Biennale, all related printed matter, and the accompanying publication. Paying tribute to the tradition of Venetian masks and the multiple uses of masks in Laure Prouvost’s practice, all printed matter (invitations, press documents, and exhibition leaflets) takes the shape of actual masks, some with cut-out shapes for the eyes. The exhibition leaflets were distributed with elastics and could be worn within the pavilion.
